P.Unity is a band that consistently cultivates soul and funk traditions in a form characteristic of both genres – live, with a ten-piece line-up, without computers.
Powerfully influenced by the output of George Clinton and Parliament/Funkadelic, P.Unity combines influences from D’Angelo’s neo-soul, new and old rap, the soft-psychedelic sound of Connan Mockasin or Nick Hakim while not hiding the jazz background of much of the line-up.
Over the past few years, the band has been working on their second studio album. “No Codes” explores P.Unity’s vintage sound inspirations more deeply while reaching for fresh production treatments. The band moves away from rap influences on the recordings in favor of extended, song-like forms.
